ABSTRACT
Onychomatricoma is a rare benign tumour of the nail matrix first described by Baran and Kint in 1992. Since then, fewer than 80 cases have been reported in the literature. It usually affects fingernails of white adults and in most cases patients report one o more of its four main clinical features: thickening of the nail plate, transverse or longitudinal overcurvature, xanthonychia and/or multiple splinter haemorrhages. We present a patient with a 20-year history of gradual thickening and yellowish nail plate of his fifth right toe. The avulsion of the nail plate revealed a large filamentous tumor arising from the nail matrix and histology confirmed the diagnosis of onychomatricoma. We performed a curettage and electrocoagulation of the base of the tumor and also a total matricectomy due to the large size of the tumor and its location on the fifth toe finger.REFERENCES
