ABSTRACT
Clubfoot or talipes equinovarus is a condition seen frequently at Hospital para el Niño Poblano (a children’s hospital) with congenital etiology having the highest rates. A descriptive, observational, cross-sectional, retrospective study was done from January 2002 to January 2004. A total of 18 patients were included: 16 with congenital disease and two associated with myelodysplasia; 3 cases were bilateral and 15 unilateral, among the latter 8 involved the right foot and 7 the left one; mean age was 12 months and the highest frequency occurred at 4 months. The surgical approach consisted of a Cincinnati-type incision. Fifteen patients did well, and among the remaining ones, one had great toe and surgical wound necrosis, two underwent revision surgery due to relapse of deformities and hypercorrection.
