ABSTRACT
Mycoplasmas are characterized by a wide host spectrum, resulting interesting the fact that they play an important role in human diseases. Mainly in gastrointestinal pathologies and their relationship with the reactive arthritis, which recently has been associated to Mycoplasma fermentans.
Mycoplasma fermentans culture (0.1 mL), 1 x 10
6 CFU/mL was supplied orally to a group of rats. Blood serum was obtained to detect antibodies against
Mycoplasma fermentans. Stomach, intestine and synovial tissue were extracted to do the isolate in culture, histological study and Mycoplasma fermentans detection by PCR. The metabolic inhibition test showed antibodies against
Mycoplasma fermentans; whereas histological study showed intestinal damage and inflammation of the synovial membrane.
Mycoplasma fermentans detection by PCR was negative.
