ABSTRACT
Introduction: Dietary guides are educational tools that convey scientific knowledge
about food and nutrition as practical messages that facilitate food selection and
consumption. In less than two years, they are particularly important due to the need
to form eating habits from the early ages.
Objectives: To assess the changes in knowledge about feeding infants and anemia
among health professionals responsible for carrying out the implementation of dietary
guidelines.
Methods: A survey was applied in order to measure knowledge among health
professionals at two moments in time. The questionnaire consisted of two blocks of
questions: one related to feeding infants and the other about anemia in children
under 5 years of age and its repercussions on child health. For the qualification of
each block of questions, a score was made based on the number of correct answers.
Statistical comparisons were made in order to assess the changes.
Results: There was a statistically significant improvement in the knowledge among
health professionals related to the benefits of breastfeeding, complementary feeding,
and the effects of anemia on child health.
Conclusions: The results obtained show, in a short period of time, favorable changes
in health professionals' knowledge about food and nutrition, which makes it possible
to obtain positive results in the educational work on healthy eating.
