ABSTRACT
Introduction: Knowing the reliability of renal function predictive equations used in
pediatric population is essential.
Objectives: To evaluate the reliability of renal function predictive equations in a
Cuban pediatric population with urolithiasis.
Method: A transversal descriptive study was developed in 3119 Cuban pediatric
patients with urolithiasis whose renal metabolic studies were performed in Institute of
Nephrology from 2001 to 2014. The information was processed with S.P.S.S., version
18.0. In the evaluation of reliability were calculated the means and standard
deviations of differences between the results of predictive equations and creatinine
clearance and intraclass confidence coefficients (ICC).
Results: To the equations of Schwartz 1976, Ghazali-Barratt, Schwartz IDMS and
Counahan, the average differences were bigger in teenagers (-23,7; -9,9; 18,9 and
13,8 ml/min/1,73m² BS). To none of equations the ICC value of 0.71 was reached.
There were not statistically significant differences in reliability of equations according
to the level of renal function, sex or presence of obesity.
Conclusions: The reliability of pediatric renal function predictive equations in the
estimation of creatinine clearance is not high, and to some of them is better in
teenagers than children.
