ABSTRACT
Introduction: The study of the heart is essential for the understanding of several diseases such as septal defects and valvulopathies that are causes of high mortality. We set out to characterize the patients clinically and morfofunctionally with septal defects and mitral and aortic valvular heart diseases operated in the 2014-2018 quinquennium at the Cardiocentro in Santiago de Cuba.Method: An observational, descriptive and transversal study was carried out in the total number of patients with mitral and aortic valve diseases and septal defects of both sexes. We studied the entire universe that amounted to 567 patients, the variables studied were anatomical and clinical.
Results: 58% of interatrial septal defects were low and in the interventricular septum showed equal behavior in both portions of the septum. The main morphological and clinical alterations in the aortic stenosis were the obstruction of left ventricle blood output accompanied by dyspnea, in aortic insufficiency, the diastolic blood flow in the retrograde direction and the palpitations predominated. In mitral insufficiencies the regurgitation of blood and fatigue and in mitral stenosis the increase in pressure in the left atrium and dyspnea.
Conclusions: The predominant anatomical situation in atrial septal defects was below the oval fossa and in those of the interventricular septum they had similar behavior in both portions of the septum. The morphofunctional alterations of the valves determined the clinical manifestations in the patients, contributing to the diagnosis of the disease.
