ABSTRACT
Bulboespinal muscular atrophy or Kennedy disease is a rare condition of the motor
neuron. Patients with this condition, in addition to presenting motor problems that
substantially affect their autonomy, will present to a greater or lesser extent affectations
related to the musculature of the phonoarticulator mechanism, causing problems in the
production of speech, voice and the function of swallowing. Evaluation and intervention
by the phoniatric specialist is essential to establish intervention strategies aimed at
communication skills and safe food ingestion.
