ABSTRACT
Background: There are several studies that demonstrate an association between personality traits and abnormal levels in the lipid profile. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between levels in the lipid profile and personality traits, in health personnel.
Method: Twenty volunteers were examined with an average age of 28.9 (age range 22-34). They were made lipid profile: total cholesterol, triglycerides; high density lipoproteins (HDL), low density lipoproteins (LDL) and very low density lipoproteins (VLDL), after a 12-hour fast and application of tests to measure personality traits: 16PF of Catell and the Machover test. They were divided into two groups, those that showed lipid profile results outside the reference value (abnormal) and those that presented a lipid profile within (normal) parameters, according to clinical criteria.
Results: Of the 20 study subjects, 10 of them showed normal levels in their lipid profile and psychopathological features at homogeneous levels, not significantly highlighting any, while the group of the other 10 showed lipid alterations, showing only significant levels for the trait of insecurity and aggressiveness, while the other traits were only attenuated.
Conclusion: A significant association was found for the insecurity trait. For the values of the lipoproteins VLDL and LDL at high levels, the same association was found, which only occurred in two subjects.
