ABSTRACT
Introduction. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of discolysis with methylene blue, to relieve discogenic lumbar pain, a therapeutic clinical trial was conducted at the Pain Clinic of the Surgical Medical Research Center, from January 2015 to January of 2018.
Methods. The sample consisted of 50 patients, who were randomly assigned to two study groups: Group A: discolysis with methylene blue; Group B: discolysis with ozone. Both procedures were performed with local anesthesia and fluoroscopic control. To evaluate the clinical improvement, the group that obtained a greater number of patients was taken into account, in which a pain assessment of less than 2 and a Lattinen test equal to or less than 4 coincided; the adverse events that occurred were also evaluated.
Results. In group A the number of patients who obtained clinical improvement was 24, while in group B it was 15 patients (p <0.001). The number of complications was lower in group A (p <0.001).
Conclusions. Discolysis with methylene blue was more effective in relieving discogénico lumbar pain.
