ABSTRACT
Thromboembolic venous disease is positioned within the main causes of mortality in the hospitalized patient. This condition, which includes deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, can lead to serious complications and increase in health expenses. However, its prevention has demonstrated to be effective and safe in reducing venous thromboembolic events in patients with risk factors. There are several models for risk assessment of these events that define which patients require thromboprophylaxis; as well as, bleeding scales that discourage the use of pharmacological therapy and recommend mechanical methods. Evidence recommends which therapy is the most appropriate according to the context in which the clinician is involved.REFERENCES
