ABSTRACT
Introduction. The examination of bone remains is of great importance in the process of identifying an individual; in some conditions, such as carbonization, the determination of the species can be complicated, and must be based on morphological criteria. Methods: We present studies on skeletal remains that were examined and processed according to the protocol developed by Forensic Anthropology, which has been implemented since 2012, with deteriorated, fragmented or poorly preserved bones as elements of study. for being unrecognizable and difficult to analyze as in situations of carbonization, mutilation and extreme putrefaction, in which there is little or no analyzable material.
Results: Different skeletons were analyzed applying anthropological morphological criteria; Except for a sample in which animal remains were identified, the other bones were human individuals, including the body of a newborn.
Conclusion: The morphological criteria established by Forensic Anthropology can be a fundamental element for the identification of bone remains in carbonization conditions, establishing the need for complementary studies only in special cases.
