ABSTRACT
Sporotrichosis is a mycosis that affects cutaneous, subcutaneous and lymphatic tissue, produced by dimorphic fungi of the
Sporothrix schenckii complex. It frequently occurs in intertropical America: Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Uruguay and Guatemala.
Material and methods: Retrospective study (1960 to 2017) of cases of sporotrichosis with positive culture from the Reference Center in Micology (CEREMI) of the Dermatological Institute of Jalisco «Dr. José Barba Rubio» and two private laboratories, describing: age, gender, occupation, topography, place of residence and clinical variety. The objective was to determine the frequency of sporotrichosis. Descriptive statistics were made with measures of central tendency, percentages, means and ranges, expressed in tables and graphs using the Excel 2010 program.
Results: In 58 years we found 1,134 cases of sporotrichosis, with predominance of the masculine gender in 58.99%, with respect to the age, the age group comprised of less than one year to 15, with 25.75%. prevailed in terms of occupation, the household was the most frequent with 28.49%, followed by the farmers with 27.42%, the clinical lymphangitic variety was the most observed with 68.96%, followed by the fixed form with 27.16%. The topography most affected were the upper extremities with 53.49%. Of the 1,134 cases, 93.20% were patients from the state of Jalisco, Mexico.
Conclusion: The state of Jalisco is an endemic area of sporotrichosis, observing a frequency of 20.80 cases per year in this study.
