ABSTRACT
Vaccination is a practice that meets high standards of approval and effectiveness during childhood; however, during the adult stage is a subject little studied and systematized. Vaccination is an effective measure to prevent a large number of diseases and their evolution to severe forms. According to the National Health and Nutrition Survey 2011-2012, older adults represent 9.2% of the population in the country and vaccination coverage in adults is below optimal values for women, men and older adults. Some of the reasons for lack of vaccination are geographical area, socioeconomic level, access to medical service, age and attitude towards vaccination. The National Vaccination Scheme in Mexico has established the immunization scheme for adults according to sex and age older than 60 years. Special vaccination is a very important issue since risk groups must be taken into account for its correct application. Achieving vaccination coverage in adults is a challenge in this country; there is sufficient evidence to document the importance of vaccination in adults. As doctors, we have the responsibility to reinforce the practice of vaccination as a method of prevention in health.REFERENCES
