ABSTRACT
Introduction: Insolation is considered to be a risk factor for eye and skin diseases.
Objective: Describe the geographic (physiographic) and seasonal behavior of the
distribution of insolation in the country in the period 1981-2013, thus shedding light
on its possible role in environmental health.
Results: Insolation time series show first order persistence and annual periodicity
in its frequency structure without tendencies. The physiography of the territory is
associated to medium insolation. Coasts and inland plains exhibit the highest
insolation values, though gradients are generally weak across the country.
Conclusions: Insolation shows time order similarity across the territory. The
geographic landscape is associated to insolation values.
