Tuberculosis control in Cuba from 1930 to 1958

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The presence of tuberculosis in Cuba has been documented since 1630. At the end of the 19th century, the Antituberculous League emerged in Santiago de Cuba, a private institution created by the interest of local doctors. At the beginning of the 20th century the Antituberculous League was officially formed, which opened a dispensary for outpatient treatment of the sick. In 1907 the first Sanatorium was built for the treatment of patients admitted.Objectives: To identify the anti-tuberculosis activities in Cuba between the years 1930 to 1958.
Methods: The logical historical method was followed, supported by the documentary review. In the present article the activities of fight against this evil between the years between 1930 and 1958 are presented.
Conclusions: Institutions were created and organized and measures were taken to control tuberculosis, although they did not have an adequate impact in reducing the incidence and prevalence of the disease.
