ABSTRACT
Introduction: Temephos 1 % is used in Cuba for more than 30 years ago mainly in
granular formulations for Aedes aegypti contro/. The difficulty of bulk method is that
part of the containers disposed at dwell treated when they use the water contained
there in.
Objective: To study the effectiveness of temephos 1 % when is applied in granular
methods and with Abatim container.
Methods: The study was conducted in the laboratory with four formulations of
temephos registered in Cuba, and the bulk Abatim container. Field study was carried
out in the Urban Area of Popular Council Jamaica in Turcios Lima Health Area, San
José de Las Lajas Municipality, Mayabeque province in 4 blocks with an index house
greater than 1 during the 6 months preceding the study, which was applied in two of
them temephos in granular form and the other two with Abatim container.
Results: The laboratory results showed a lower residual effectiveness of granular
temephos in water exchange for each formulations tested than when were applaying
using the container. Field study was conducted using Abatex formulation, it was
found that during the months that the experiment was cheeked the index house in
the blocks where deposits were treated with Abatim container was less than 0. 05
and in the blocks where deposits were treated with temephos in granular form the
index house was greater than 0.1.
Conclusions: Temephos 1 % formulations have a greater persistence and
effectiveness when is applied with Abatim container that when they are applied in
bulk methods.
