ABSTRACT
Background: The ability of multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) with or without
protocol Computed Tomography Urography (CTU) allows to evaluate the genitourinary
tract completely.
Objective: Knowing the characteristics MDCT urothelial tumors and other
lesions that occur as intraluminal filling defects.
Material and methods: Ambispective
study initiated February, 2005 to November, 2014 of those cases referred to MDCT by hematuria
and / or urothelial lesion known. This included 160 patients, 171 studies with MDCT 8
and 16 abdominopelvic or with CTU.
Results: All transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) demonstrated
was 46 patients (29%) (11 with known history in which it showed recurrence in 10
[6%] and recently, unexpected and incidental diagnosis supported by imaging findings in
36 (22%) with histopathologic confirmation, corresponding to urothelial neoplasms, the TCC
type. In 99 patients (62%), based on the findings of MDCT, were completed as characterizable:
75 (46%) were classified as characterizable, highly suspicious by the approach of study,
by subsequent hypervascular behavior after intravenous contrast and in 24 (15% of all studies)
were classified as no characterized by the approach of study or subsequent intravenous
contrast hypovascular behavior.
Conclusions: Three-phase MDCT with intravenous contrast
is the most complete technique for diagnosis, staging and surgical planning urothelial neoplasms,
and must include the entire tract reno-ureterovesical.
