ABSTRACT
Introduction: Regarding research as a substantive function, the implementation of a management system, starting from the establishment of its components and the structural relationship among them, establishes a challenge for higher education institutions.Objectives: To describe the research process at National University of Chimborazo during the period from January to June 2016.
Methods: We carry out an analytical investigation, whose population was constituted by the guiding documents of the research process established in the context studied, in addition to a group of key informants. The techniques used for the data collection were the revision of documents and the nominal group.
Results: The survey was carried out based on the identification of suppliers, inputs, sub-processes, outputs and clients that allowed the characterization and subsequent graphic representation of this in the form of a flow chart, where the relationship between the structures was reflected.
Conclusions: The key informants agreed that the research process in the UNACH is established functionally, so that its improvement from a developing vision should take into account the current potentialities and strengths.
