The “First Forum for Uro-oncologic Patients” was included in the program at the LXIX Congreso Nacional de la Sociedad Mexicana de Urología and is scheduled to be presented in Mexico City, August 9 and 10, 2019. A project of the Mexican urologic community, its goal is to actively involve patients and family members in the knowledge of oncologic disease and its psychosocial, medical, and healthcare repercussions. The Forum will enable front line examination of the involvement of the National Health System in optimizing the resources for patient care, their incorporation as active agents in urologic oncology research, and the involvement of the Mexican urologic community in the healthcare process. Based on data from the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the incidence of cancer in Mexico in 2018 was 143/100,000 inhabitants, with a mortality rate of 6.1/100,000 inhabitants.1 Those figures suggest that the number of reported cases has increased in recent years,2 together with the consequent healthcare demands.REFERENCES
