ABSTRACT
Introduction: breast cancer is one of the most frequent neoplasms worldwide, covering its diagnosis and treatment, great importance in order to reduce the associated morbidity and mortality. Objective: to characterize histologically and immunohistochemically the invasive breast carcinoma in Pinar del Río between 2013 and 2015.
Methods: descriptive, cross-sectional observational study, developed at the Hospital Oncológico III Congress of the Pinar del Río province between 2013 and 2015. From a universe of 452 patients with a histological diagnosis of invasive breast cancer, a sample of 418 was intentionally selected., meeting the inclusion criteria. The analysis of clinical histories allowed the obtaining of information that gave exit to the studied variables, recourse to the descriptive statistics for the analysis of the results. Medical ethics was respected.
Results: in the studied series, the predominance of females was found (99,3 %), with the predominant age group being between 51 and 60 years old (28,2 %). Infiltrating ductal carcinoma was the predominant histological subtype (59,1%), while the luminal group (64,7 %) was consistent with the immunohistochemical classification, reporting the molecular subtype HER2, and the triple negative subtype at 10,6 and 24,7 % respectively.
Conclusions: a correct histological and immunohistochemical identification of breast cancer, allows to effectively address the medical action, directing the therapy to continue depending on the characteristics shown by these studies, since the answer will not be the same in different variants of this condition.
