Fractura de Stent Viabahn después de la reparación endovascular de aneurisma poplíteo

ABSTRACT

During the last decade, endovascular management of popliteal artery aneurysm (PAA) has become an alternative to open repair. The medium-term results are similar with the two types of treatment, however one of the potential problems with this management are twisting, fracture and thrombotic occlusions. The incidence of coated stents fracture in the management of AAP is surprisingly low, probably because it is not reported in the literature. We present a clinical case of acute ischemia of the lower extremity secondary to a Viabahn Stent fracture placed 12 months previously by AAP. This rare complication was managed by open surgery. The incidence of stent fracture after endovascular treatment in AAP is probably not reported in the literature. This complication occurs more frequently in young patients, patients with moderate physical activity and in areas of overlap.
