Kinesiotape as an Alternative Treatment of Sialorrhea in Patients Suffering From Neurological Disease

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Sialorrhea is the involuntary loss of saliva from the oral cavity, a potentially disabling symptom in many patients with neurological diseases. The neuromuscular bandage can be a therapeutic alternative providing circulatoryanalgesic, muscular and structural biomechanical benefits.
Objective: To present a review on the use of kinesiotape or kinesiotaping as an alternative method for treating sialorrhea.
Methods: We conducted electronic searches and libraries of national and foreign medical journals indexed in Scielo, Imbiomed and Pubmed over a 10-year period. Thesis completion and textbooks were consulted both in Spanish and English, on the usefulness of kinesiotape in treating sialorrhea.
Conclusions: Kinesiotaping is a useful alternative to train the oral muscles for treating sialorrhea.
