Cardiovascular rehabilitation and its effect on the quality of life after percutaneous coronary intervention

ABSTRACT
Objective: To assess the effects of cardiovascular rehabilitation on quality of life after percutaneous coronary intervention in the province of Manabí, Ecuador in the period May 2015 -December 2017.Method: In 12 months, 122 patients with heart disease of all genders without age limit were evaluated who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention with stent implantation and who did not present with indications to incorporate them into the cardiovascular rehabilitation program. Cardiovascular rehabilitation consisted of physical exercises supervised 21 days after the coronary intervention and stayed in the program for 56 weeks. Quality of life was determined through the SF-36 test, which was measured in three moments, at the beginning, at six (6) and the year, in the same way, the time of reinsertion to work and social activities was quantified.
Results: The quality of life of the patients presented significant differences in the scores of the scales physical function, physical role, emotional role, vitality, emotional well-being, social function, corporal pain, general health and total scale, the values of said scales were they increased after six months and a year of cardiovascular rehabilitation with respect to the initial condition of the patients, which evidenced an improvement in their quality of life; The labor and social reinsertion was 100%, which was gradually according to the characteristics of the patients.
Conclusions: Cardiovascular rehabilitation had a positive effect on the quality of life of the patients, showing to be safe and effective because it achieved 100% of the labor and social reinsertion.
