Conocimiento de pacientes con cáncer de mama sobre el efecto de la cúrcuma en su tratamiento oncológico

ABSTRACT
Objectives: To analyze the knowledge that people
with breast cancer have about the use of turmeric
as a coadjuvant treatment.
Material and methods:
The study was carried out through a semi-structured
interview, qualitative in which the knowledge of 20%
of the population of people with breast cancer who
attended the Hospital Civil Fray Antonio Alcalde in
the outpatient clinic was evaluated. Oncology area, on
functional foods and the use of turmeric as a coadjuvant
treatment to their oncological treatment.
Results: Of a
total of 20 people interviewed with breast cancer, only
8 people reported knowing what a functional food was
and 7 of them had consumed it, while 13 people of the
total sample (n = 20) reported having heard about the
turmeric, and the rest (n = 7) do not know what it is.
However, only two people who have heard about it
know about the anti-carcinogenic effects of turmeric as
a coadjuvant treatment.
Conclusion: According to the
research carried out, it is concluded that the scientific
basis in clinical trials on the effect of turmeric in
the adjuvant treatment of breast cancer is scarce and
is probably the reason why health experts do not
recommend it and the population He is still unaware
of the effects that functional foods, especially turmeric,
can provide for his health.
