ABSTRACT
Periodontal disease, the first cause of tooth loss in adults, comprises a group of lesions of infectious etiology that can cause chronic inflammation. Chronic renal failure is a condition in which the kidneys are injured and do not allow the filtration of the blood can accumulate toxins that affect multiple systems including the mouth. Among the main oral manifestations are xerostomia, gingival inflammation, angular cheilitis, among others. Due to the association that has been established between these two entities, this topic was reviewed and some investigations were highlighted that reflect the fact that periodontal disease establishes a "permanent inflammatory state" that aggravates the prognosis of chronic renal failure.
