Breast cancer is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in women. In our country, the incidence rate in 2016, was 27 x 100 000 women, the deaths were 1525 patients. There is no doubt that this situation is a great health problem, which that only improved by a good system for early detection of the disease. There are several imaging modalities for this purpose, like the mammography, tomosynthesis and ultrasonography. The Magnetic Resonance (MR) has reached a great development in the last years, since it not only offers the diagnosis by image, but also functional techniques like diffusion is indicate. The purpose of this work is to review the application of this technique in the diagnosis of breast cancer where we can conclude that its usefulness in: assess the response to primary systemic therapy, study of high risk patients with of breast cancer and perform the follow-up of patients to differentiate postsurgical changes from tumor recurrence.
