ABSTRACT
Introduction. One of the great advances in cardiovascular surgery is the treatment of cardiac pathologies, both congenital and acquired. Methods. An evaluation was made on complications in cardiovascular surgery through a descriptive prospective cross-sectional study; the objective was to know the frequency of complications in cardiovascular surgery and the length of hospital stay until discharge in the CIMEQ Hospital in 2017 in elderly patients of 30 years undergoing surgery for cardiovascular surgery, with a representative sample of 62 patients. Clinical histories were reviewed and the tabulation of data was performed with the Excel program for Windows. Results. it was observed that the greatest post-surgical complication was low cardiac output and atrial fibrillation, 74.1% of the patients were less than 4 days in the intensive care unit, and the largest number of patients were male, the most affected age group was found in patients under 60 years of age, although with very little difference, the most performed type of surgery was valve replacement followed by myocardial revascularization. Conclusions. that the absence of complications helps withless time of hospitalization until discharge.
