ABSTRACT
Introduction: Ectopic pregnancy continues to be frequent among women due to lifestyle modifications and previous medical history (infections, surgery). Heterotopic pregnancy has been rising in diagnosis as a consequence of assisted reproduction techniques.
Case report: 38-year-old female in her first pregnancy of 7.4 weeks according to her last menstrual period; she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 15 years prior and had been on treatment with interferon, which she suspended as pregnancy was diagnosed. Symptoms initiated with sudden pain located in the right upper quadrant and irritative symptoms, no vaginal losses. A transvaginal ultrasound reported an intrauterine pregnancy and a second extrauterine pregnancy, with abundant free liquid in the cavity.
Conclusion: Heterotopic pregnancy is a pathology that puts women’s life at risk if not diagnosed and treated on time. Heterotopic pregnancies carry a risk of losing both extrauterine and intrauterine pregnancies.
