ABSTRACT
Obstructive sleep (OSA) is a highly prevalent condition with relevant cardiovascular and metabolic complications. It is associated with hypertension, obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, dyslipidemia and metabolic syndrome, and its severity correlates with degree of complications. It generates oxidative stress with the activation of the inflammatory cascade and the release of chemical mediators which impair metabolic regulation. The inflammatory response generated by OSA will be described in this article, along with its relationship with hypertension, obesity, insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome.
