Periapical cemental dysplasia. Case report

ABSTRACT

The term periapical cemental dysplasia (PCD) was used for the first time in the classification of odontogenic tumors of the World Health Organization (WHO) of 1971, where it was included as one of the types of cementoma. The PCD is not a true neoplasia, but a dysplastic pathology in which the multiple focal areas of normal bone and marrow are replaced by cellular connective tissue lesions with a limited growth potential. The objective of this work is to report a case of a female patient of 66 years of age who attends the Dental Operative Service of the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Carabobo, for presenting this lesion in the right maxilla. It was concluded that the benign fibro-osseous lesions presented many similarities with regard to their clinical, radiographic and histological aspects. Therefore, a joint analysis of this information is essential to obtain a definitive diagnosis.
