ABSTRACT
Peripheral ossifying fibroma is a benign lesion that occurs in the jaws, most frequently in women. Clinically, it presents as a
prominent lesion that usually emerges from the interdental papillae, similar in color to the adjacent gingiva, sessile or pedicled
base, which can reach large dimensions and dental displacement. It does not bleed, usually painless and its elimination must
be complete to avoid recurrences. We present a clinical case of a female patient who attended periodontal consultation for
the removal of a tissue in the lower anterior area that interferes with the occlusion, firm consistency, sessile, painless, without
exudate, well circumscribed with abundant bacterial plaque and dental calculus. The hygienic phase of the mouth is performed
to proceed to the elimination of the lesion by surgical excision and histopathological evaluation, diagnosing itself as peripheral
ossifying fibroma. After two years, the patient returned to the clinic with a recurrent, pedunculated, painless major lesion in
the same surgical area with displacement of the anterior incisors of the third quadrant, bacterial plaque and present calculus.
The lesion was excised and histopathological examination confirmed the result of a peripheral ossifying fibroma. The patient
is followed for one year. It is important that the dentist perform clinical and histological identification and follow-up of this type
of lesions despite having the complete excision to reduce the associated dental loss.
