ABSTRACT
Objective. To present 7 patients that required a simultaneous vena cava filter (superior and inferior).
Material and methods. 14 Greenfield filters were deployed (7 in SVC and 7 in IVC) from April 2006
to April 2018.
Results. The simultaneous deployment was done through right internal jugular access in 5 cases and 2
femoral access. There were no complications during the procedures or during follow-up because of the
filters. In our series of 30 years of experience (417 patients), we found that 7 (1.6%) required simultaneous
filter placement.
Conclusions. Double filter placement is required infrequently although it is considered necessary in
patients with superior and inferior acute DVT who can´t receive anticoagulants or have therapeutic failure
with anticoagulation. It is important to be familiar with the placement technique to avoid complications
because patients who require this procedure are usually oncologic patients with terminal diseases.
