Promoting traditional Cuban popular culture as a professional resource in Latin American Medicine students

ABSTRACT
Background: traditional popular culture plays an important role in the training of medical students. It is a resource for the professional development of future health professionals and society in general.Objective: to propose actions that promote traditional Cuban popular culture as a professional resource for Latin American medical students.
Methods: a research work was carried out based on the qualitative paradigm, from September 2016 to June 2017, at Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences. Theoretical methods were used: analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction; and empirical ones: analysis of documents, survey in the form of a questionnaire and interviews, and group techniques such as brainstorming for the diagnosis of needs and the project proposal.
Results: the importance of traditional popular culture in the training of medical students was verified, with special emphasis for Latin American students who come to study at the Latin American School of Medicine (LASM). It was possible to make a project proposal that allows knowing and deepening on traditional popular culture as a professional resource for medical students, based on their importance in the performance of their profession.
Conclusions: traditional popular culture is an important professional resource for medical students. The proposed project was very well accepted by medical students, especially by Latin Americans.
