ABSTRACT
The certificate of temporary disability is a legal document which is ‘exchangeable’ for money. It represents a merging of health and the rational use of resources such as workable hours, salaries, and employer-employee productivity. It is of vital importance to determine the effect of feedback on family practitioners to optimize prescription of certificate of temporary disability. Through statistics generated by the same Department of Family Medicine, current and continual information regarding cost, sick days given, pathologies identified and weekly goals proposed was obtained during the March-May 2016 trimester. Feedback obtained was disseminated through thirteen 5-10 minute sessions prior to the department general session, and the effects were compared to the previous year. We observed a reduction of 42.83 days and 5 certificates prescribed in April 2016 compared to 2015, as well as a statistically significant reduction of 44.5 days and 3.58 certificates in May (p=0.04, 0.02). Continuous feedback and close follow-up has the capacity to modify certificate prescribing behavior of physicians.
