ABSTRACT

The history of Urology in Chihuahua is chronicled in a brief summary by Dr. J. E. Grajeda, through the vast and detailed work of numerous historians. He describes the founding of the Hospital Militar, provides information on the Casa de la Beneficencia, still standing today, relates the manner in which urologic problems were first treated in Chihuahua, and narrates the arrival of urologists to that region of the country, beginning with Pablo Chapa Cárdenas (the first Urology resident to complete his training at the Hospital Centro Médico Nacional 20 de Noviembre of the ISSSTE). Such growth led to the improvement of healthcare and methodology in urologic practice at both the institutional and private levels and today it is situated on a par with the highest national and international standards.
