ABSTRACT
Introduction: The relationship between discrepancy and diagnostic coincidence in causes of death represents an indicator of the medical activity quality. Objective: To characterize the scientific production concerning the clinicalpathological relationship of causes of deaths published in Cuban medical journals.
Methods: A descriptive bibliometric study of the scientific production was carried out, regarding the clinical-pathological relation of causes of death in articles of medical journals certified by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, and published in the Virtual Health Library of Cuba.
Results: Dr. Luis Díaz Soto Central Military Hospital is the hospital institution with the most publications. The study period was covered from 1962 to 2015. The samples studied increased from 224 to 17 125 cases, with a total of 30 088. The average percentage of diagnostic discrepancies for direct and basic causes of death was 23.69 and 22.58, respectively. Most of the investigations were published in the Cuban Journal of Military Medicine. Publications are collected from 1997 to 2015. The main specialty of discharge corresponds to the area of medical care to critical patients, with predominance of the male sex and the age group over 65 years. The main causes of direct and basic death were bronchopneumonia and atherosclerosis. The most productive authors were Hurtado de Mendoza Amat and Montero González. The most used keyword was autopsy.
Conclusions: The Cuban Journal of Military Medicine constitutes the means of fundamental disclosure. The discrepancies for both causes of death are shown in one every four autopsies carried out. There is a high level of diagnostic certainty in military medical services.
