ABSTRACT
ObjectiveTo evaluate the feasibility of applying a cardiovascular rehabilitation program in patients after transluminal percutaneous coronary angioplasty in the province of Manabí, Ecuador.
Methods
We included 170 patients with ischemic heart disease of all genders with no age limit who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with stent implantation and who did not present any indications to incorporate them into the rehabilitation program cardiovascular. They joined the rehabilitation program with supervised physical exercises 21 days after the coronary intervention and stayed in the program for 56 weeks. Periodic ergometric tests and clinical laboratory tests were performed before starting the rehabilitation program, at the end of it, six months and one year after the PCI.
Results
As patients joined the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and educational talks, cardiovascular risk factors began to change positively as the smoking habit was eradicated in patients. The different lipid fractions were measured at the beginning of the incorporation, at 2, 6 and 12 months.
All the ergometric variables had a progressive ascending behavior, since they were increasing from one measurement moment to another with statistically significant differences.
Conclusion
As a result of this research, a cardiac rehabilitation program was developed in the province of Manabí, which proved to be safe and effective because it achieved 100% of the labor and social reintegration, with an adequate perception of quality of life and without registered deaths.
