ABSTRACT
Onychomadesis is characterized by separation of the proximal
nail plate from the matrix with no alterations of the distal nail
bed adherence. It is an idiopathic process or associated with
infections, fever, systemic diseases, and drugs, however, the exact
mechanism remains unknown. Hand-foot-mouth disease is
a very common and contagious Coxsackie virus infection, with
fecal-oral and respiratory transmission. It is more frequent during
childhood and has been associated with onychomadesis, it
resolves without complications. We report an eight-year-old
female with a three-week history.
