Intervention about informational alphabetization in dentistry

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Medical Sciences University students are not prepared enough for searching information, as well as for the elaboration of project works in the different subjects.Objective: To execute an educative intervention taking into account the level of knowledge that Dentistry students have about the different available information resources in Infomed.
Method: a quasy experimental without control group, educative intervention study was performed at Mayabeque Faculty of Medical Sciences in the first term of the course 2016-17. The population was constituted by the 85 students of the second year of the Dentistry career, the sample was selected at random and formed by 46 students. A survey was applied to those students to determine their real level of knowledge. An elective course was designed and carried out by specialists from Mayabeque Medical Sciences Provincial Center of Information. A SPSS statistical set for Windows and the Info Stat software were used for processing the information.
Results: before the intervention, the 32,6% did not know the available information sources from Infomed and the 69,56% did not know BVS; after the intervention all the students know BVS and most of them enter in it; in the evaluation about informational resources provided by Infomed the number of students increased to 38 who obtained a mark higher than 70 points.
Conclusions: the educative intervention was considered effective.
