ABSTRACT
Introduction: several pathologies of multifactorial origin are manifested in oral cavity, due to the poor adaptation of prosthetic appliances, which, after being in contact with soft tissues, can irritate mucous membranes and produce various lesions. Their main causal agent is prosthesis that is why they are called paraprosthetic lesions. Objective: to describe the behavior of paraprosthetic lesions of soft tissues in patients with complete prosthesis.
Methods: a survey, an oral examination and a descriptive and cross-sectional study were carried out on a sample of 200 patients who were seen in the prosthesis consultation at "José Ramón León Acosta" Polyclinic, from September, 2015 to September, 2016.
Results: lesions prevailed in the group aged 70 years and over, with predominance of females. Stomatitis subprosthesis was the most frequent lesion. Lesions prevailed in patients who use the permanent prosthesis with inadequate dental hygiene.
Conclusions: paraprothetic lesions predominated in female patients aged 70 years and over, and subprosthesis stomatitis was the most common lesion associated with poor oral hygiene, smoking and drinking coffee.
