ABSTRACT
Introduction: This is the first report in Regla municipality, Havana of the giant African snail (Lissachatina fulica), great environmental and producer of diseases like eosinophilic meningoencephalitis due to Angiostrongylus cantonensis, helmint that use this snail as intermediary host.Aim: To report the presence of the giant African snail in Regla municipality and to evaluate the risk perception toward the vector and the knowledge for eliminating.
Material and Methods: This soil snail was found during the student screen journals in November 2018. It was performed a survey to 38 adult inhabitants in order to know the population risk perception from these areas and about the knowledge about the eradication form against this specie.
Results: All people knows somehow that this snail is dangerous but the 52.9 % does not know the effective actions to eliminate it.
Conclusions: It is recommended to perform educative actions and for the vector destruction with the community participation in order to their fulfilment.
