ABSTRACT
Introduction: Hallux valgus is one of the most frequent deformities of the forefoot. Is an important and rarely used therapeutic technique in our area for the treatment of this pathology.Aim: To describe the outcomes of the minimal invasive surgery to treat moderate and light hallux valgus at the “Fructuoso Rodríguez” Teaching Orthopedic Hospital during the period January, 2015 and February, 2016.
Materials and Methods: An observational, descriptive, longitudinal and prospective study while applying the minimally invasive surgery on 22 patients’ foot that were previously diagnosed with moderate and light hallux valgus by the doctor was performed.
Results: The average global and objective score according to the score of Mayo Clinic increased an average of 20 points after surgery. An improvement in pain between 20 and 30 points in 14 patients (63,6 %) was obtained. The functional restriction improved between 10 and 15 points in 9 cases (41 %). The use of normal footwear improved between 5 and 10 points in 9 cases (41 %). The aesthetic result improved 5 points in 9 cases (41 %). According to the subjective assessment of the patients, the results were satisfactory in 90 % of participants. From the radiological point of view, the hallux valgus angle improved from a preoperative mean of30 ° to 11 ° after surgery.
Conclusions: 22 patients using minimally invasive surgery were operated and good results were achieved in all cases. Patients were satisfied with the surgical correction. Taking into account the functional results of the Mayo Clinic, an average increase of 20 points was obtained.
