ABSTRACT
Alcoholism is a chronic, progressive, incurable and fatal disease, which is characterized by tolerance, physical and psychological dependence, along with organic pathological changes. This article is aimed at describing the aspects related to alcoholism and its consequences on both health and social life of human beings. A literature review was carried out considering alcoholism as a disease that has reached a rise in the world during the last years; it affects both health and social relationships of human beings, young people show the most vulnerable association. Alcoholism seriously damages not only the addicts, but also the people around them, hence the importance of raising awareness in the population about the need to avoid excessive consumption of alcohol.
