University extension activities, current influence on the education of medical students

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the university, as the leading institution to train a consistent professional involved in the international context, is constantly forced to solve this task, to improve and update its substantive processes: teaching, research and extension activities, where in this last aspect, the university shows its features as a cultural center of great importance for students’ development.Objective: to describe the role of extension activities as a substantive process of universities in the training of medical-science students, as well as analyzing its influence on the development and transformation of the society.
Methods: as theoretical methods documentary analysis and systematization were used, which helped to organize and to extract relevant information from the extensive literature review on the subject and taking as a basis the main information and resources available where the key-words used were “extension" and "university management".
Conclusions: university extension activity today is of great importance in terms of the multifaceted training of future graduates of medical sciences, and it is also a way to strengthen the links between university and society from health promotion, emphasizing on the public health culture, ensuring a transformation and development of the context where the medical students are trained.
