ABSTRACT
Introduction: Values must be created since childhood, within the family. They are consolidated both at school and at university. For university students, regardless their major or specialty, there is an influential figure in the teaching of values, the paradigm to imitate: the teacher. Objective: To update the information about the pedagogy of values and its influence on anesthesiology and resuscitation. Development: The continuity of professionalization has its basic foundation in the different forms of teaching organization. Whatever this may be, it culminates in know-how and, therefore, in education at work. Education at work is in need of values because the patient is the source of learning for the specialty student and that is why, before him and for him, values must prevail. Among many others, which cover respect, tolerance, solidarity, generosity, perseverance, responsibility, and love, every teacher must inculcate and demand them from their students. Conclusion: The pedagogy of values is important in the teaching of all medical specialties in general, and particularly in anesthesiology and resuscitation. Education at work, whose culmination is knowledge, know-how, and know-to-be, has an inestimable value in the field of the specialty. Teaching these values is a social duty.
