ABSTRACT
Introduction: The training of integral professionals in higher education is one of the challenges faced by the managers of the processes at this educational level. Training based on competences is one of the ways to approach the achievement of the desired quality in university graduates. Knowing the specific professional competences to be developed in the training of the family medicine specialists is very important because of its relationship with the quality of professional performance and the medical attention they provide to the population.Objective: To identify and define the specific professional competences for the training of family medicine specialists.
Methods: A technological development research was carried out, by means of theoretical methods, systematizing the work on the subject by several authors, different positions were determined in relation to competence-based training, professional performance and ways of professional performance.
Result: Specific professional competences are identified and defined: communicative, clinical, epidemiological in health education, teaching; investigative and managerial, and the modes of professional action through which they express themselves in professional performance.
Conclusions: Training based on the development and acquisition of specific professional skills is an alternative to improve the quality of training within the specialty of family medicine and medical care provided in primary health care.
