ABSTRACT
Introduction: The development of higher education in the global context imposes new challenges to such institutions. It is necessary to contribute to solve the problems and demands of society. Objective: To assess the relevance of the Master's degree program in Health Management of the Autonomous Regional University of the Andes.
Methods: Amixed research, cross-sectional and exploratory, was carried out with emphasis on qualitative elements, in the period from May to June 2016. The relationship was reviewed between development policies in Ecuador and the objectives of the master's degree, and a survey was applied to 203 selected non-probabilistic medical science professionals.
Results: The program was evidenced to contribute directly with the fulfillment of the development policies and guidelines in Ecuador, as well as with the strategic objectives of the Ministry of Public Health. The results of the survey showed that there is a demand in this area of training and an interest of professionals to access the master's degree for their professional development.
Conclusions: The proposed procedure allowed to assess the relevance of the master's degree in Health Management and includes elements not previously discussed in the international literature and related to the contribution of the program to the solution of the main needs of the Ecuadorian public health.
