ABSTRACT
Anxiety and depression are disorders of mood that can influence the proper functioning of the stomatognathic system relating to alterations at the temporomandibular joint. The objective was to determine the degree of temporomandibular joint dysfunction in patients with anxiety and depression. A descriptive, cross-sectional observational study was conducted at the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes del Castillo University General Hospital, from November 2017 to May 2018. The study population was 95 patients who met the criteria of inclusion. Anxiety as a trait, evaluated by means, predominated in 26.31% of patients; Depression prevailed as a feature evaluated high in 27.36% of the population studied; 57 patients presented type II joint dysfunction. It is concluded that patients with anxiety and depression suffer from temporomandibular joint dysfunction.
