ABSTRACT
Low back pain is a usual cause of medical consultation in health services, however, it is insufficiently recognized and treated. This pathology generates important costs derived from direct medical attention and the loss of productivity secondary to the associated disability. The purpose of this document is to provide guidance based on the efficacy, effectiveness and safety of available alternatives for the pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment of low back pain in non-specialized contexts. The recommendations compiled come from management clinical guidelines published by worldwide known organizations such as the American College of Physicians and the American Pain Society, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), the National Guideline Clearing House and other sources considered of interest. The global indications have been revised and adjusted to the context of Colombian medical practice, may not apply to all patients or all clinical situations and do not intend to replace the medical criteria on the individual assessment of cases. These recommendations provide guidelines on the diagnosis, pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment, follow-up and remission of the patient with low back pain. Evidence-based knowledge is configured as the cornerstone of a comprehensive treatment, impacting on quality of life, reduction of disability, as well as health expenditures raised by the assessment and management of this condition.REFERENCES
