ABSTRACT
Allergic rhinitis is a common disease that can coexist with other alterations in the
professional field of the otolaryngologist; although prescribing anti-histamine and
anti-inflammatory drugs is the most common therapeutic option against this disease,
treating its cause requires the identification of the allergens that cause it, which can
be determined with different tests. Besides analyzing the basis of allergen identification
with skin tests, this document describes the development and evolution of the
intradermal test skin endpoint titration (designed by otolaryngologists), which offers
quantitative results; we present the current technique to perform it, analyze it, its
advantages and potential disadvantages compared with other tests to detect allergy.
With proper training and provided that adequate resources are available, the use of
this test by the otolaryngologist allows to broaden the diagnostic approach, in addition
to making easier to take medical and surgical decisions, related to the wide
spectrum of allergic nasal disease.
